Artist Statement
My work is catharsis for the terrors of modern life: surveillance technology, American hegemony, climate change, the end of the world. My tech policy day job is a recurring theme, and much of the work is some form of sublimation, with the Internet as inspiration, material, and often method. Where powerful forces demand abstraction, scale, and homogenization, I counter with messy marks, absurdity, and superstition as small acts of freedom. In a world of new threats, I’m interested in the age-old contradictions of being human: our individual and collective death wishes, our indomitable spirit, and our capacity for joy even when all evidence points to the contrary.
